  1. "Lovely Jane" is a splendid poem written in praise of a sister of the Reverend Father G. Leonard.
    I
    As glowing Sol his beams withdrew
    From Erin's hills of green;
    Alone I wandered through Loughcrew,
    T' enjoy each beauteous scene -
    I crossed, to gain a distant grove,
    A cowslip - studded plain;
    And thought I met the Queen of Love
    In fair, unrivalled Jane.
    II
    Her tresses, like the raven's wing,
    Hang on her neck so fair -
    Like new-blown violets in the Spring,
    Her breath perfumed the air -
    As saphire lines, on virgin snow,
    Appeared each azure vein -
    And as the budding rose's glow,
    So blossomed the cheeks of Jane.
