    Her arching brows and forehead high,
    Defy my pen to paint -
    The lustre of her star - like eye
    Would captivate a saint -
    She can, in russet weeds arrayed,
    Enamour every swain -
    Perfection all her skill displayed
    In forming lovely Jane.

    Her neck and breast with lilies vie -
    Her limbs as cedar straight -
    Her lips like the red berries dye -
    Her shape and mien complete -
    She has a pure angelic mind,
    Exempt from ev'ry stain -
    The Loves and Graces all, combined
    To beautify my Jane.

    I saw the morning's blushing dawn -
    At eve, the show'ry bow -
    The moon - the flocks that browse the lawn -
    And crystal streamlets flow -
    And pearly dew - drops, sparkling bright
    On bush and spikey grain;
    But nothing that could yield delight,
