  1. It is said that there was an old hedge school at Leitrim, Mullagh, Kells, Co Meath. It is not known what teacher taught in it but it is said that the parents of the children had to support him. It is said that the great-grandfather of Patrick Mc Mahon, Leitrim, Mullagh, Kells, Co. Meath was taught there. All the people around sent their children to school. When they came home their parents would murder them if the spoke English.
