  1. There was once a boy who set out from home to seek his fortune. His mother was alive and his father was dead, so he could get no work to do. As he was going past a forest out came a black cat and asked him where he was going, and he told him. The cat said he would go with him. Not long after they met a dog and he went with them. Soon after that, they met an ass and they all got up on his back, and went on until they met a dog, and he got up on his back also. Very soon they got tired and lay down to rest.
