    man at Mullagh. One of the officers said he did not fear O Reilly and that he would go down and challenge him at his own door. So this officer whose name was Mabe mounted on the best horse available, and fully equipped with pistol and sword rode down to Mullagh hill, and three times said some words that he knew would annoy O'Reilly. He then turned and galloped back to Kells with all the speed his horse was capable of. At the time of his arrival at O'Reillys house the latter was preparing to go out on some errand. So it was a considerable time after Mabe's departure when he had finished his toilet. He then put saddle and bridle on his enchanted horse and taking with him his sword he went in pursuit of Mabe, but as they had taken different routes O'Reilly arrived in Kells without coming in contact with the other man. So he decided to return to Mullagh by Moynalty which happened to be the route taken by
