  1. There were many old trades in Kells long ago. There was a reel factory where the Christian Brothers School is now. It was owned by an English firm. They brought trees from Lord Headfort and set up a sawmill in the school-yard. They cut up the trees and started to manufacture the reels. It was owned by a Mr Sharp. There was also a tannery where Mr Mc Entee yard is now. A nailer or a man who makes nails used to live in Kells near the round tower. There was a place where they used to make pig-rings, the nailer made these also.
