    Adown the gently Sloping Hill,
    With voice like music on a rill,
    Thus rendering his favoured strain
    In home-spun garb came Mary Jane
    The soft notes of the plaintive song
    The hillside echos did prolong,
    When as a turtle to its mate
    Cow hied to her "on wings of fate
    Then arm-linked they tripped the dew,
    Nor guilt theiur guileless bosoms knew
    Would such terrestial bliss might last,
    But oh, scarce felt till gone and past
    Like glories of the Summer time,
    So early nipped by winter rime,
    Which if delayed earth yet would be
    Still paradise, an Elysee -
    This short digression past away,
    Love's votaries now where are they
    In converse on a mossy bank,
    Mid fairy-flax and sorrel dank.
    Which, had they tongues, might well declare
    What vows were breathed then
