    The daisy sprang beneath her tread;
    The skylark tuned his sweetest strain.
    Ascending from his lowly bed,
    To welcome forth Sweet Mary Jane.
    Though but an humble maiden now
    Of pastoral and low degree
    Had Parish seen her chiseled brow
    From faithless Helen's wiles he'd flee -
    And History's page, and Homer's lair
    Had told not of Achilles slain
    In vain might Grecian belles essay
    To emulate sweet Mary Jane.
    Be mine the rapture, mine the joy
    To win this virgin lily pure
    Though but a kind, a rustic [?] boy
    Devoid of talent and obscure
    Then welcoem bliss and farewell woe
    Through & should plough the stormy main
    Twice torrid suns or polar snow
    were equal shares with Mary Jane.

    O'er meads
    and pastures stretching wide
    To view fair nature in her prime
