  1. was born and reared in Greenanstown, he was a man of tremendous strength, he carried 60 stone of wheat around a barn in Mr Brennan's of Saddlestown. On one occasion he was a goal keeper at a football match. A powerful young man got into handygrips with Hopkins, he was unable to free himself, he afterwards declared he never met a man with such strength.
