  1. Outside a village in a remote part of the country there was supposed to be a fairy rath. These raths were high mounds of earth called moats where fairies used to frequent. One moonlight night as a man was returning home on horseback from a friends house it was almost midnight as he was passing this moat. He saw a great number of little men all dressed in red coats and green branches in the field playing a game of football. As he became interested in the game he was about to dismount and go closer. But one of the fairies jumped on to the fence and warned him to go home at once. The horse on seeing the strange little men took fright and galloped home as fast as he could.
