- The birds most commonly found in the locality are - The Thrush, Blackbird, Robin, Sparrow, Crow, Jackdaw, Goldfinch, Water-hen, Seagull, Wren, Yellow-hammer, Linnet, Starling, Pigeon, Lark, Crane, Hawk and Magpie. Some of the birds of the district such as the cuckoo and the swallow migrate. The best sign as to when the cuckoo is leaving is just when the corn begins to shoot out.
The thrush and blackbird build at the bottom of a close hedge. The robin builds in a shady bank where moss grows. The sparrow builds under a shady wall or under the eve of a house the crow and magpie build in a very high tree.
A very peculiar thing about the magpie is that he builds an arch of sticks over his nest to prevent birds, such a the hawk, from robbing it. The Jackdaw builds in the same place as(continues on next page)
