    the wangles (this wish containing about forty straws) and makes a kind of knot on the end which he intends pushing into the old straw. Into this knot he shoves the thatching fork. The thatching fork is something like this:-
    steel - wood
    1 1/2 foot
    with a large handle and a small fork. With this fork he presses the wisp into the old thatch. He continues at this until the whole roof is covered. He then clips or cuts the straw that is over the eaves evenly with a straw-knife. Where ridge-tiles are pt on the slated roofed houses he puts mortar or damp yellow clay which afterwards becomes as hard as concrete or cement. The thatching is not yet finished.
