  1. 1. When the wagtail is seen in the vicinity it is a sign that rain is near.
    2. A dog eating grass signifies raining weather is coming.
    3. It is an indication of a storm to see a cat sit with its back to the fire.
    4. Blue or green flame in fire portends a wind storm soon.
    5. When hens persist in staying out in rain it is a sign that the rain is going to continue. they generally flee to the hen-house when there is a short shower knowing that they will be able to come out for food when rain ceases.
    6. There will soon be a rainfall if the sound of the train on the G. N. R. line of the sirens on the boats in Dundalk Bay can be heard very distinctly.
    7. If the ash tree produces its leaves before the oak we may look out for a bad Summer and Autumn.
    8. It is a sign of the approach of a severe Winter when the Winter migratory birds visit us early.
    9. Should a spark remain on a pot when it is being removed from the fire it is an indication that the weather is on the mend.
    10. Soot falling down chimney means rain in the near future.
    11. Evening red and morning grey
    Helps the farmer make the hay.
    12. A rainbow in the morn is the shepherd's warning,
    A rainbow at night is the shepherd's delight.
    13. Rains is imminent if swallow flys low or if dogs of the spaniel kind are inclined to become drowsy.
