- About thirty years ago there lived in Decomade a weaver named John Larkin. There was a great lot of flax sown at that time and he was counted as one of the best weavers in the county. The people used come from all over to get flannel woven by him. He used generally have two journey weavers working with him.On every Saturday evening when the two men would be paid they used go to the public house as it was very near them and get intoxicated. Then they used begin to argue and fight and when anyone would ask Johnny Larkin why they were fighting he would say that they had too much "dandelion" taken. One of the men was very comical named Tom Kerin. All the young boys used to be tormenting him, some taking his part and others taking the part of the other weaver whose name was O'Neill. Tom Kerin would be walking around the road with his crowd shouting, "Hurrah! what man! its all a bit of jollification!"As time went by Johnny Larkin removed back to Lissycasey but after a while as the weaving slackened he lost his job and died soon after.
