  1. Long ago all the bread was made from oats. The people got up at six o clock and the men went out working. When they had some sheaves cut the woman of the house went out and gathered them up.
    She scotched them and gathered the grain. She put it into a pot to dry. She ground it between two flat stones called querns and she made it into bread.
    There was no tea there at that time and it was milk that was taken instead. All the people came into their breakfast. It was the same for the dinner and that was how the people lived.
