  1. A fair used to be held in bullen on the 28th October every year. The Fairgreen was in Bradshaws field about thirty yards above the school on the same side of the road. William Ryan (87 or 90) one of the oldest inhabitants in the district say that the fair was discontinued about 50 years ago owing to a serious clash between some soldiers and people attending at the fair. He remembers crowds of people to be at the fair and there used be frequent fights between two factions known as the "two year olds" and the "three year olds" and the fair often extended from the 'moat' on one side to the quarry on the other. Standings used to be erected to the top of the Hill.
Edmond Griffin says that the important Pig market used to be held on each year on the 26th of October and it was usually well attended. He remembers having been present at the last market held in bullen about 40 years ago and to have bought sweets and cakes at the standing opposite the pump.
