The decided to bring home some of the gold. He was just stooping down to get some of it when a man spoke to him and him to go home for a bag so that he could bring home enough of the gold that would do him for his lifetime. He then went home for a bag but to his surprise when he came back he could see nothing but a wood of stick.
Under the peak of Cruicin there is still to be seen a large stone which Fionn Mac Cumail is said to have thrown off the mountain. There are marks on this stone resembling foot prints as it is said he jumped on to the stone from the top of Cruicín, one of the peaks of Slieve na mban.
