  1. Ballad - Langley of the Iron Hand (continued)

One often hears by the fireside in Ballingarry the story of Langley of the Iron Hand who fought with Cromwell at Clonmel.

    (continued from previous page)
    VI
And what a wondrous change took place
    when of his limb herself
He found whew thinking o'er his ease
His right hand was the left
    Vii
The furious foe, in joyous glee
    The bleeding hero scammed
And bade him then in ivory
    to get an iron hand
    viii
But Lawyley with his sabre bright
    Struck at the boasting doud
to crown the labours of his fight
He cut him through the crown.
    viii
His iron hand hence forth he wore
    His various works to settle
Then proving thew just as before
    Himself a maw of mettle.
