Dear one my friend to you I send ¶ A greeting kind and true,

In Summer time when fields were Green ,
    And flowers bedecked each tree,
In through Roscrea I made my way ,
A fair one for to see.
    Her beauty did entice me
    I stood a while to gaze ,
May the Lord above protect my love,
While I sing in her praise
Her fair smiling countenance , her curling locks of hair ,
Queen Ellen bright , Queen Ann of night
    None with her could compare,
    She is altogether beautiful ,
She has wounded my heart sore,
O! Nellie dear , now pity me ,
And I will ask no more.
Be easy now young man she says
Your talk lies all in vain,
For if my father came to hear ,
You surely will get great blame
