    Irishmen combine
    Our clergymen and nobles all their duty to fulfill
    And with noble hearts so fair and true they met on Barnane hill.
    And when they were assembled there it was a glorious scene
    There were drums and fifes and music sweet And banners of the Green
    They were led on by noble men who vowed their blood to spill
    Saying today we will have our own again
    or we will die on Barnane Hill
    And there was a noble clergyman from the town of Templemore
    For to express his eloquence for aid I now implore
    He first addressed the multitude with a voice both loud and shrill
    Saying today we will have our own again

    And there was an old detective there
