    the weather by felt) with petrol. From the fact that the roof was made of an in flammable substance it is easy for the reader to imagine how quickly the fire started when the torches were applied, also the fierceness of the blaze while it lasted.
    When once started, the building became a blazing inferno, the huge tongues of fire leaped skywards; the radiation of heat from it could be felt several hundred yards away, and although the night was unusually dark, a pin could be easily picked up on the square of Newport, by the light which the doomed building gave off. The whole construction collapsed in a little more time than it takes to tell the story. The destruction was so complete that nothing remained but the smoke blackened walls, and the great chimney-stack, which is a part of the present creamery. The damage caused was very great, for apart form the buildings, the creamery was equipped with the most up-to-date machinery. The refrigerator supposed to be the best in Munster, was valued at £500; the store was filled with valuable merchandise, and expensive oils and acids were stored in other offices. The combined damage was roughly estimated at £30,000.
