  1. I often heard the old people say that on the eight of May in the year 1879 there was a very big wind and it knocked several houses and it blew off the spire of Killmastulla Protestant Church and it took a galvanised shed from Killoscully several miles. There was a fair the same day at O'Brien's bridge and the people had to leave the fair owing to slates flying off the roofs of houses. It tore the heather out of the roots on the mountain and scattered it down on the lowland.
