  1. I have often thought of returning.
    Though age my return delays,
To that place in my heart ever burning
The home of my childhood days.
And now I am always dreaming.
While sadness my life doth fill
When I dream of that little village
    those of kilamallock hill.
The place was not lacking in heroes,
    Whose names history's pages fill,
And there, many a chieftain hoary,
Died for his land with a will.
In this place long remembered in story,
A saint his abode once took,
And oft in his hermit-cell dreary,
    He studied the Holy book.
    Away from the fretful world.
With its anxieties, sorrows, and cares,
    In his hermit-cell e'er reclining
He seeks peaceful rest in his prayers.
