    In the "Oban Times" of October 17th 1927, the following very interesting article appeared from the pen of Mrs. Alexander Macdougal, a member of the Scottish Historical Society:-
    It was during one of many pleasant rambles in the neighbourhood of that magnificent, but much neglected waterway, the lower Shannon, we chanced to visit the charming village of St. Patrick's Well. Which nestles midst finely wooded pasture lands, adjacent to the Dane-established city of Limerick, and passing down its only street, our attention was soon drawn to the curious figure carving of Ireland's patron Saint, which certainly seems worthy of careful antiquarian research and study. Paradoxical as it may seem to many, the great teacher of Christianity in Ireland, Patrick, the son of Calpornius, a deacon and grandson of Portitus, a presbyter, was born (about 187 A.D.) in the vicinity of Dumbarton, by the river Clyde.
