    I thought no gloom could ever
    Come o’er this land so fair.
    But now its hills and dales
    With clouds are overcast,
    And to a land of freedom
    Its sons are flying fast.

    Adieu, adieu to Erin,
    The land I’ve loved so well-
    The land of lands to live in
    Were freedom there to dwell!
    Adieu, my friends, adieu!
    My bark but waits for me
    Unto that land to bear me
    Where smiles sweet liberty.

    From friends belov’d and true;
    From scenes of youth and pleasure,
    And bid to them adieu!
