There is a place painted out where mass was said in penal days on the top of Pat O' Donnel's hill. When the English soldiers captured an Irish priest saying mass they put him to death immediately. Some people were paid to spy on the priests.

    The following is a list of names given to (a) fields, (b) streams, (c) hollows, (d) heights in the parish of Cappamore.
    (a) "The Murder field" owned by Mr Joseph McCarthy Bilboa. It is said that about a thousand years ago, a family were sitting by the fireside watching a pot of water boiling one night. The pot was knocked off the fire and they hanged it and it fell again and they hanged it again and it fell again and when it fell the third time a crowd of men rushed in
