    As I stood in Queenstown Harbour on a cool September eve,
    And there I did see sights to see as a ship prepared to leave
    O'h there were boys and girls who might return no more
    To their dear old homes again by the dear old Shannon shore

    I saw a pair of lovers as they stood there hand in hand
    They made their vows together in their own dear native land
    But he said now I must leave you and cross the ocean wide
    But if ever I return again I will make you my bride
    It may be years, it may be months, but I'll return asthore
    And we'll live in peace and happiness by the dear old Shannon shore
    Where the foaming tide does roar and the shamrock clings to every rock
    by the dear old Shannon shore
