    In the townland of Ballyshane about a half mile east of Poer head in the Parish of Aghada on the sea-coast is a place known as "Leabaidh Easbaidh" or the bishop's cave...

    must be approached from the shore. A large boulder forms the first stepping place to the floor of the cave. The next is a foothold cut in the rock and from which a man can easily draw himself up. The cave extends back about sixty feet from its mouth. The top of the cave is about thirty feet over the floor. A small spring in the cave supplies a constant supply of water. The bishop got his food in the following manner. A basket containing food was let down by a rope from the top of the cliff until it got to the mouth of the cave and it was an easy matter for the bishop to haul in the basket and let it out again.
