People used to spin black stockings long ago...

People used to spin black stockings long ago. They used to keep a black sheep specially to make the black thread, as they had no dye in these years. Mrs. Crowley in Ballywilliam has a spinning-wheel yet. I have seen a home-made towel in our own house.
The croppy pikes were made at Lawton's forge, nick-named "gowes". They lived near Coolbay cross. The ruins of the house and the forge stone is to be seen there yet.
