    And straightaway obeyed
He counted not the bitter cost
    Nor tarried, nor delayed.
On Dripsey's field when fighting hard
    For dear, dark Rosaleen.
He, wounded fell beneath her flag
    The yellow, white and green

Both North and South both East and West
    From foreign fetters free
But God had willed that he should fall
    A martyr in the fray
Before would break across the land
    The dawn of Freedom's days.

His name shall shine on history's page
