    A tombstone close to the gate commemorates a Father O'Mahoney died 1732.
    A man was hanged on the gate of this graveyard after 1791 for maltreating a Land agent.
    Another culprit was hung at Aughadillane and a third at Rushill at Mr Clarke's gate.

  2. According to Mr Michael P. Healy, Gurrane, Donoughmore Fenianism flourished in Donoughmore.
    The celebrated Captain Makay founded a division in the parish.
    Makay, formerly an officer in the American army performed many daring exploits.
    He captured Ballyknockane barrack and [Fota?] and disarmed the garrison at the latter place. He seized guns and revolver ammunition in Murray's Gunshop and Allports Gunshop in Cork.; the former establishment still exists, but the latter has disappeared.
    Later in an affray he shot a policeman and being captured was transported to Australia.
