    The fire is blazing brightly,
    And the songs rise merrily.
    For the neighbours there are gathered
    And mirth and laughter glow
    For the pleasant hall of meeting

    And our young hearts throbbed with pride
    For the day was swiftly coming
    When upon the mountainside
    With veterans brave to lead us
    WE would march to meet the foe
    And plant my country's banner
    On the green hills of Cloghroe.
