  1. Home-made Candles
    Home made candles were very much used by the people long ago. Those candles were made from tallow or bacon. It was all melted out and a wick of hemp was dipped into it. They kept on dipping it until it was the size required. Then a ladder was put across the house and the candles were hung up on each rung.
    Candles were made also by peeling rushes and dipping them into fat.
    There were other candles made by getting an iron mould and putting a wick up through it and by pouring the fat into the mould and leave it in it until it would harden. Then the mould was put into hot water and the candles drawn out.
