    Eve. It was an old custom to light bonfires on St. John's Eve, the 23rd June.
    "Have the potatoes sown before St. Patrick's Day and do not wait for the cuckoo", was an old proverb among the people. "Christmas comes but once a year and when it comes it brings good cheer" is another.
