- (continued from previous page)Banteer, Co. Cork. It was like a barrel on a stand. Butter was made a few times each week. It sometimes took two men to turn the handle.
When a stranger entered the house he or she would say, "God bless your churn". It was by hand the churning was done at that time.
The churn-dash got a rolling motion. There was a glass hole in the churn and it was possible to see the lumps of butter forming inside. Water was thrown in when the cream was near cracking to help it gather the butter.
They took out the butter in wooden plates and washed it and put salt in it.- Collector
