    Co. Cork. In the open this man taught the children lessons. it was in the summer time. The children paid him by bringing twopence every week. Their writing was done on slates.

  2. Many hedge schools existed in this district over one hundred years ago.
    One used to be held near my home at Kilcolman, Kanturk, Co. Cork. In summer time it was held near an old lime kiln about a quarter of a mile from my home.
    In Winter school was held in the local farmers houses.
