    There, raised on high the flag of green
    Fluttering in the air,
    The Wexford men in soldier mien,
    And Wicklow's sons were there.

    And nearer still the foe advanced,
    The musket loud did roar.
    The sunbeams in their sabres danced.
    The heath is red with gore.

    And Larry's foremost in the fray,
    His gun he swings full round.
    And in a thrice there prostate lay,
    Three redcoats on the ground.

    But soon a blow came from behind,
    Which stretched him in his gore,
    Upon the reeking heath he lies,
    Alas! to rise no more.

    Full forty summers passed away,
    O'er Vinegar's stately hill,
    And yet beneath its sacred clay,
    The patriot dead sleep still.

    And Mary o'er the rebel's grave,
    Each morn prays and weeps.
