   As I went out walking one morning in spring To hear the birds whistle, and the nightingale sing. I espied a pretty fair - maid sitting under a tree, Lamenting her buachaill na gruaighe breágh buidhe. 2 I stepped up to this fair-maid; "Good morning" I said, "What is the cause of your ailment, come tell me I pray"? The tears from her eyes in torrents did flow, And the cause of your troubles I wish for to know". "O", she said, "Sir, dont tease me, but go along your way; For I am in trouble for many long day, I once had a sweet-heart from the town of Tralee. And they called him my Buachaill na gruaige breágh buidhe." 3 My love he was handsome and genteel I'm sure,
