A story is told of a drunkard who lived some years ago in Bantry.

A story is told of a drunkard who lived some years ago in Bantry. His poor wife was plagued by him. He was always out in the public-house late at night and always late for work int hr morning.
She went to the doctor in the end to seek his advice. The doctor told her to let him know the next time he was on the spree and that he would see what he could do.
She had not long to wait for a few days later he went completely on the "rats"
The doctor came and gave him a sleeping draught. Then while he was sleeping they took him to a carpenters work-shop where there were several coffins. They bundled him into one, and then hid in a corner to see what would happen. When he recovered from the effects of the draught, he jumped up and looked around and seeing all the empty coffins around him. He cried out O Christ! the day of General Judgment and here I am late again.
