Having taken off one shoe he cast if from his as was his usual custom. Then it suddenly dawned on him that he had promised no to cause any more annoyance to the yank. He then took off the other shoe and placed it on a chair.
Next morning the proprietor asked the yank how he slept the previous night. "Oh" he replied "I didn't sleep a wink atal last night as I heard one shoe falling about midnight and remained awake all night waiting for the other shoe to fall.
