  1. The following poem attributed to Seán Ó Coileáin was supplied by Pádraig Ó Mathúna Rang II. In verse V he refers to Leaca Riabhach which unfortunately is much denuded of its trees now. In a part of the wood which has not been destroyed is a little bower called "Leabhaidh an Fhile." Here, Seán Máighistir, as he is known locally, composed many of his poems and he had a lovely setting for his poem "An Buachaill Bán." "Maidin laoi ghil fé duille chrainn glais srl."

    Sweet Castletownshend
    Demesne I
    Your (You?) gentle sweet muses assist me,
    And join in my sweet vocal lays,
    In praising this sweet habitation,
    Where nature its beauty displays.
    I've roamed through all parts of this nation,
    And travelled both Paris and Spain,
    But found none so truly delightful,
    As sweet Castletownshend Demesne.

    The fruit trees of this habitation,
    Are growing spontaneously rare,
    The peach, quince, the plum and the cherry,
    The apple and nectarine pear.
    Oh! were I the great Julius Caesar,
