- The people of this locality had several crafts long ago. The chief crafts were cleeve-making, the making of crockery, and candle-making. In making candles the people got rushes called bull-rushes and peeled the green skin off them by boring a hole in tin and pulling the rushes through. Then grease was rubbed on them and they were allowed to get hard. The local people used [to] make cleeves as a man named Conry was engaged in this craft. The making of crockery was carried on by a woman called Clarke in the village of Meelick. She used [to] dig clay in her own field and wet with milk. Then she made a hole in a field the shape of a crock and plastered the wet clay on the sides. Then it was left the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
