   he leaned forward over the well and truly he saw the shining bits of gold. He was about to jump in, when he was seized by a little red woman, who asked him why he dared to jump into such a well, and he replied that he wanted to get the gold.

   She then told him that she guarded the treasure and that she would challange any being to reach it, and so he was prevented from getting the gold. As the man turned to see the little creature she vanished. He returned home, late that evening, very down-hearted but never again visited the well. Ever since the little woman guards the store and occasionally lights illuminate the place. Nobody has ever ventured to unearth it since this old man failed to do so.

   Situated at the back of our house is a fort entirely surrounded by trees and it is supposed to be inhabited by fairies because music is often heard there, and it is said that there is a pot of gold concealed in it. A large stone marks the place where the gold lies, and it takes three men to remove the stone but two must die in the attempt to find the treasure. A lepreachaun guards this stone and he is sometimes seen on the tree which overlooks the treasure.

   Owing to the terrible danger attached to the removal of the stone nobody has risked his life in an attempt.One night a poor man was passing the fort and
