  1. 1) St Canice or Kenny founder of the Abbey and patron of the parish.
    2) He was born in the year 515 or 516 in Glengiven Co Derry.
    3) In early life St Canice was employed in his native district as a shepherd boy.
    4) When only fourteen years old he was sent to Britain to be educated.
    5) St Canice and St Colm Cille were pupils together at Clonard under St. Finnian.
    6) St Canice received the holy order of priesthood on his thirtieth year
    7) Aghaboe was first selected by St. Finbarr who afterwards gave it to St. Canice.
    8) In the year 599 or 600 St. Canice died in the Abbey of Aghaboe
    9) In 1382 the Abbey of Aghaboe was founded.
    10) The Abbey was 100 feet long and 25ft wide.
    11) The Ancient Parish Church stood about 50yds
