    Almighty Spirit!...

    (continued from previous page)
Wailing sadly thro' the dark-brown trees,
The mist of death, I think, hangs on each hill
And shadows every valley, stream and rill.
But see! But see! the envious moon that shrouded
Her grand compeer, moves stealthily away,
And the great King of nature now unclouded
Resumes the sceptre and the throne of Day.
Once more refulgent with empyrean blaze
    On earth's convexity his power displays;
Whilst mist and vapour, flying home from his sight,
Roll to their native home, the realms of night.

  2. I'm far away, from Nore's green side,
I'm distant, far, from Nore's bright tide,
I'm far from every senseless joy
That charmed the child and blessed the boy
Well! be it so! Its gain to rue -
What's done I cannot now undo.
I'll kiss my fate and pine no more
For love, and youth, and thee sweet Nore
