A man who thought he was going to ascend into heaven. ...

Once upon a time a man named Dowling came to a fair in Rathdowney and he told the people that he was going to ascend into Heaven from The Square Rathdowney, on a certain day.
The day came but Dowling did not ascend. He had a pair of nailed boots on him and an old woman told him that they were too heavey so he took them off. Then another old woman told him to remind her friends in Heaven.
He go ashamed and ran out though Mrs McGuir's shop and he was never heard of again.
Dowling lived in Clonmeen in the townland of Rathdowney on the south side.
