    There are about twenty two shops in Rathangan, amongst which are seven public-houses .
    There are two Malthouses in use at present. There is one Grind-Mill working also. One Malt-House owned by Messers Minch Norton, & Co. it was once worked by the water from the river, but it is worked by electricity now.
    The other Malthouses is situated on the bank of the Grand Canal. This is owned by Murphy Bros.
