    One time a man was living in an old house, and he was very poor. He said to his wife that he would go off to work for a year. One morning he set off to look for work and after walking about ten miles he went into a farmer's house and he asked for work.

    another year and the man said he would. When he had the second year up the farmer gave him twenty sovereigns. The man asked the woman of the house to make a cake and to put the twenty sovereigns in it. When the woman had the cake made the farmer gave the man two advice's.
    They were, not to go in anyplace a red haired girl was , and not to take any cross cuts. The man started on his journey and after walking a couple of miles he went into a house to ask for lodging. The first he met was a red haired girl and he asked her for lodging and she told him
