    Four bravest of the rebels
    Who were in the fray that day
    Sought shelter in the barn
    And lay down amid they hay
    Said the leader of the rebels
    As he peeped out through the door
    "Nine English troopers are without
    within we are only four."
    And many's the day we beat them boys
    Outnumbered one to two
    So another blow for Ireland
    As the door they rushed right through
    Five horses without riders
    Were prancing in the yard
    Four troopers, plying whip and spur
    Were flying fast and hard
    To reach the shelter of their camp
    In yonder vale below
    Like abject cravens fleeing
    From a brave and dauntless foe
