    The sun was shining brightly
    This Summer afternoon,
    Like brunished gold it glistened
    On each helmeted dragoon
    Nine mounted English troopers
    Stopped at John Murphy's gate,
    They burst the wicket open
    No answer would they wait
    IV
    Five were posted outside
    The other four within,
    Twas short delay these soldiers made
    To fire they soon begin
    They heeded not the woman's cries
    They strike the ready match
    Soon raging blazes mounted high
    From rafter beam and thatch
    Fiercely smiled the bloodhounds
    On each beared face a grin.
    Never thinking that four brave boys
    Did lie concealed within
